Anyone who wishes to learn and become proficient in building self-sufficient Earthships and related housing types, will soon be able to come to us and satisfy their desire to learn all about these kind of unique houses.

What can you do when building?

During the construction of Earthships there is something for everyone to do, from simple tasks to highly specialized work. Experience and two right hands are a plus, but not absolutely necessary. Enthusiasm and interest are.

Depending on what is currently taking place on the building site, you can think tasks from among the following: earth mixing, tire earth ramming, clay plastering, interior wall work, laying floors, solar panels and solar heater work, tiling, mosaics, wetland construction, pit storage and construction, half pavement construction, paving, roof work, etc, etc.

There is at all times present a professional supervisor who is ultimately responsible for guiding and managing the construction process.

Besides the above primary construction work on the houses, there are various support activities such as the transportation of materials, volunteer management and catering, etc.

How often can you come to help build?

There are several options for you to and work during the construction of the Earthship project. You can come and help on weekends or on weekdays. You can specify a fixed day per week over a longer period, or commit to a longer period of time working and living on the site (from a week to several months). In short, in consultation with the head of volunteer coordination, everything is possible. It is true however that the more you are able to be present, the more variation there is in what you can do and in the challenging nature of the work.

What can you expect / not expect?

• Builders are always professionally guided.
• Coffee, tea and lunch will be provided.
• For people who come and help for extended periods, accommodation can be arranged.
• Travel expenses are not reimbursed.

Workshops / Courses

We're working on putting together paid for workshops and courses of various types and durations in which the practice and theory of self-sufficient and environmentally friendly Earthships are brought together.

When will the building start?

Building with the help of volunteers is scheduled to begin in August 2011. It is difficult to plan a strict building schedule beforehand. More accurate building schedules will only be available when the construction begins. We are also dependent on the weather, so it may be that things need to be planned differently than expected and other tasks need to be re-scheduled as needed.

Where will the construction take place?

The building location is south of Olst, within walking distance of the station.
