Sustainable village about to be built

The developments in the past few weeks have brought the start of the actual building nearer. Read some of the highlights below.

The building permission of the Aardehuis Visitor's Centre is final and no objections were received. This is very good news: our plans were approved and are apparently found trustworthy. With the obtained building permission we meet the first requirement of a large grant by the European Union for the visitor's centre. In the first building phase a large multipurpose room is planned, where we hope to inform, inspire and accommodate visitors from the Netherlands and abroad. Tourists will also like to visit the tea shop, the nature playground and a local produce shop.

In the pre-building phase we commit local organisations and companies for materials and services needed. We now are cooperating with a.o. local farmers, contractors, demolition and wood companies, carpenters, an infrastructural company, a real estate agent, a notary, a DIY-shop, Overkempe (a local project for people with a mental disability). Part of our mission is to enhance local economy by sustainable initiatives.

The local council is our partner in the design for the edible and sustainably managed public garden. We hope to commit as many inhabitants of Olst, as possible. A first draft for the public nature playground and landscape design is ready.

The notary is our partner in designing the legal dimension. All owners in our project will soon legally sign their purchase agreements.

The project holds a waiting list of 20 households. This ensures that the project will have enough candidates to help fulfill all plans in the future.

The council of Olst-Wijhe has given us permission for a temporary camp site on our plot, for the daily group of future inhabitants and volunteers during the building phase.

Various Dutch media help to update the public on our project: De StentorJijenOverijssel en Greenpeace Magazine  Iniator and chair Paul Hendriksen has been given 25th position in the 'Duurzame 100' by Trouw newspaper, ranking the most influential and sustainable Dutch. How wonderful!
